The Limited Edition Supercars Seiko 5 Sports 2023 SRPJ95K has arrived, with a return to a sleek red and black colourway. On Tuesday, Seiko Australia showcased their new watch design, amid news that the Japanese watchmaker and Supercars signed a multi-year deal to continue their partnership.
This year marks 10 years since the Seiko Australia and Supercars collaboration began, and this release of three limited edition Seiko 5 watches comes just as the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship gets underway.
Overview:
First Impressions
In a signature red, the Supercars 2023 Seiko Supercars Watch departs from the 'Victory Gold' of last year's celebratory model. Instead, the Seiko 5 Sports SRPJ95K pairs its vibrant red bezel with a carbon fibre patterned dial, and a new-look bezel insert.
Adding depth and contrast to the design, this bezel insert is given a red and white colourway. The classic Seiko 5 number markers and handset have the same white tone, which really brings this model to life.
If you decide to buy this limited edition model, you'll be given the choice of two bands. First, the bitumen black bracelet. Crafted from stainless steel, this option is dressier and goes well with the steel watch case.
The rubber strap is a great alternative and is given a tire-like texture. This looks to be a comfortable, sporty option for this Supercars watch and a great pairing with the carbon fibre dial patterning.
Seiko 5 Sports Supercars 2023 Box
Seiko's Supercars watches have always arrived in a brilliant box, with a speccy certificate of authenticity. The 2023 edition is no different, although the box has been given a makeover.
The box has a pillowed interior, with some obvious sports car influence, and continues the signature red theme of this Seiko watch. Seiko went big on this design, adding a tire rim to the top of the case in a shiny steel look. When you open up your case, you'll be greeted by your limited edition watch, extra strap, and certificate.
Seiko 5 Sports Supercars 2023 Specifications
The SRPJ95K comes in at a 46mm lug-to-lug, 42mm diameter, and 13.4mm height. It has some size, but it's about right for a sports watch. The case protects a 4R36 automatic calibre, with 41 hours of power reserve, and smooth hand movement.
As for durability, this timepiece is solid. It features 100m water pressure resistance, and a Hardlex glass cover, to keep it going strong when you're playing sports or running.
You'll also get to play around with the famous Seiko LumiBrite on the hands and hour markers, and a one-way rotating bezel.
Seiko SRPJ97K & SRPJ97K-2 Make Their Debut
Alongside the signature model, Seiko has released two more variations of the Seiko 5 Supercars 2023 — this time with a smooth silicone strap.
You'll be able to pick up the Seiko Supercars SRPJ95K in two looks, either the black strap edition or SRPJ95K-2 in red. These models lack the red and white bezel insert of the signature, but also come with a simpler, restrained style.
The case comes in light, brushed steel and holds the same diameter size as the SRPJ95K (42.5mm). Both are great additions to the Seiko Supercars collaboration, with the red strap timepiece a striking design in particular. If you're looking to rep supercars with a subtler look, the smooth black strap is a winner.
The Repco Supercars 2023 Championships gets underway on March 10th.
