Seiko has once again surprised watch enthusiasts with the release of a new line of Seiko 5's, this time named the Suits Style watches. The black and gold SRPK99K and the navy blue SPRK97K revive a tried and tested design from more than a decade ago, the SNZH53K. From their design to functionality, these timepieces bring a fresh take on the classic Seiko 5.
What's new?
The insides of these models remain familiar to any Seiko fanboy, as they retain the reliable 4R36 movement, affording 41 hours of power reserve. However, it's the exterior where notable changes set these models apart from a typical Seiko 5. The handset, resembling the iconic Omega Seamaster design with sharp, features tapered hour and minute hands (with lumibrite) to create a stunning look. The second hand also receives a subtle update, adding to the overall sophistication of the timepiece.
Other cosmetic differences include a glass rotating bezel, much like the Seiko GMT watches. The side of this bezel uses a new texture, and helps give the watch a more robust appearance. Additionally, the stainless steel bracelet receives a modern touch with polished surfaces on the links, adding a touch of shine to the watch.
What's not new?
While the SKX Suit Style watches boast several design upgrades, certain elements remain consistent with the Seiko 5 collection. The exhibition case back, clasp, crown, and case shape all stay true to the Seiko design language. The dimensions of the case also mirror those of the Seiko 5s, with a diameter of 42.5mm.
Classic Navy Blue or Trendy Black and Gold?
These models are both stunning-looking timepieces. You can't go wrong with the 97K offering a classic Navy Blue colourway, which would certainly look at home in a matching Navy Blue suit. However, who said you can't add some bling back into your board meetings with the Black and Gold theme of the 99K. Either way, you're getting a classy wristwatch that anyone would compliment.
