The Red G-Shock Frogman GW-8230NT-4 has arrived, and this 30th Anniversary is a super interesting design. If you aren’t aware of the now 30-year-old Frogman line, it’s essentially this: an elite diving spec, part of G-Shock’s durable Master of G range.
Three G-Shock watches have been released as part of this 30th Anniversary of the Frogman celebration, each with its own unique construction. This limited edition red model has been crafted with eco-friendly materials and Tough Solar, reducing the carbon footprint of the watch.

G-Shock Red Frogman GW-8230NT-4 Dial & Case
This timepiece comes in a beautiful cardboard box which certainly feels special. Right away when you hold this diving watch, you can feel just how big it is. It’s 52mm in length by 50.3mm in width. And, a huge 18mm in thickness. I mean, this is huge.
Because it’s crafted in bio-based resin and titanium, the Red Frogman is pretty light. These materials are also incredibly durable; you get ISO 200 metres of water resistance, Tough Solar, and a screw lock back. Reliability and toughness are Frogman to a tee. With the environmental resin and solar capabilities, it’s also clear G-Shock has prioritised a sustainable make.
In terms of looks, this is design going to be very divisive. I like this timepiece's asymmetrical look and bulkiness, while others will not. This bright red resin is also an interesting choice by G-Shock, but it does fit the vibrant wild frog theme
Classic Frogman Character
This line is certainly no stranger to interesting colourways, just look at the Poison Dart Frogman we reviewed earlier in the year. Against the darker titanium tone, I can see the appeal of this striking red colour. It’s convincingly sporty and looks like an authentic piece of diver’s gear.
The resin strap is very comfortable and secure on this model, and aside from the bright colour, standard for this collection.
There’s a lot of charm to enjoy on this red watch too, take a look at this fun design on the case back. The same Frogman character is also seen in the backlight, which is a great touch.
G-Shock GW-8230NT-4 Specifications
This is G-Shock’s signature diver, so let’s get deeper into the specifications of this powerful Master of G. I’ve already mentioned the 20Bar water resistance and solar capabilities, but there’s a lot of functionality in this digital watch too.
Enjoy a full dive log with dive time and surface interval measurement as well as a tide graph and moon data measurement for the surfers. You’ll find world time, a full auto calendar, and typical timing features for daily use. This is going to be accurate to plus or minus 15 seconds per month, which is solid.
Price & Final Thoughts
The Red Frogman does lie within the premium range of G-Shock, so you can expect a recommended retail price of $1249 (AUD) at watchdepot.com.au.
This piece has plenty of features to justify the price, although some might still be weary of the resin structure and digital specs. G-Shock has rarely (if ever) made classic luxury watches, but this is what you get when the watchmakers maximise its use of quality materials and expert construction techniques.
It's not for everyone, but this Frogman jumps off the wrist as a sporty, eccentric diver from a favourite Japanese watchmaker.
